Tips for a Stress Free Move!

  May 8, 2019       Admin       0

Congratulations on finding a new place to call home! There’s just one more step between you and enjoying the comfort of your new home; packing. It can be a daunting task, but a little planning can go a long way! We have compiled a list of moving tips just for you. Good luck and happy moving!

  1. Stock Up.
    1. Some people prefer to purchase boxes from a store or order them through a moving company. Others have found it easier to do a quick search on Facebook Marketplace, Craigslist, or other platforms to find free boxes. You can also stop by local stores and pick up a cart load of free freight boxes, but this usually only works in the early morning.
  1. Don’t Forget the Tape.
    1. It’s time to be prepared. Don’t forget to stock up on packing tape, a tape gun, packing paper, and bubble wrap. If you don’t already have markers, throw in a few permanent markers for labeling your boxes later.
  1. Room By Room.
    1. Unpacking is an absolute nightmare if you’ve mixed items from different rooms. Start in one room and pack everything up before moving on to the next.
  1. Label Your Boxes.
    1. This step is easy, but in my opinion, it’s the most important. It saves you and your helpers a ton of time. Each box should be labeled with which room it belongs in and what is in it. This makes unloading the truck and unpacking a walk in the park!
  1. No Last Minute Packing.
    1. You may think “We can just pack the last of this up tomorrow morning,” but chances are you’ve underestimated the task. Pack everything up before moving day, so you are ready to roll right away.
  1. Keep the Essentials with You.
    1. Chances are you won’t have everything unpacked in a day, so it’s smart to pack a small suitcase of essentials. A change of clothes, medications, eyewear, toiletries, toilet paper, chargers, and band-aids (moving can be rough) are items I like to keep on hand.
  1. Moving with Pets.
    1. My pets absolutely dread moving. They are confused, anxious, and stressed from the moment packing begins. To minimize stress, you may want to consider boarding or finding a sitter for your pets on moving day. If this isn’t an option for you, place their items in a quiet room away from the commotion.
  1. Get Plenty of Rest and Hydrate.
    1. Take care of yourself. Moving is a lot of work, and it’s important to make sure your mind and body are prepared for the busy day ahead.
